The Internet works through the process of packet switching. This is done through the transmission of data, which can be in the form of packets of information, across a network of computer networks. To put it simply, the Internet works on the principle of computer networking. Each computer on the network can receive and send information as well as the contents of those files. However, because the Internet does not function the same way that a normal telephone network would, there is an additional layer of security that must be applied in order for Internet data to be accessed correctly.

This is called a “HTTPS” layer, which stands for Hypertext Transfer Protocol. This layer of encryption allows the Internet to transfer secure data between servers without the users knowing anything about it. There are many different types of servers that can be used for the purpose of transferring files over the internet, and include the local area network, the wide area network, and the intranet. However, rather than connecting a computer to the internet, an Intranet goes between two or more computers by using Extensible Markup Language (XML) rather than a standard browser. This allows for content to be automatically presented to a user when they visit a website. This is the reason why the internet can be accessed via a computer, rather than having to be plugged in to a wall socket like a phone line would.
